La musica di Hybrid Theory è il risultato dell'unione di molti stili e ispirazioni differenti. Il cantato di Chester è influenzato da Depeche Mode, Deftones e Stone Temple Pilots, mentre i riff e la tecnica del chitarrista Brad Delson riprendono Guns N' Roses, The Smiths, U2 e gli stessi Deftones. Nell'album singoli di successo come "In The end", "Crawling" e "One Step Closer".
